Moon Cookies

Recipe by Mère Souveraine

What You Need

  • 2 1/2 C all purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 t baking soda

  • 1 1/2 t baking powder

  • 1 C butter, softened (2 sticks)

  • 2 1/2 C sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 t vanilla extract

  • 1 8-oz block of cream cheese, softened

  • 1 stick butter, softened

  • 4 C powdered sugar

  • 1 t vanilla extract

  • 1 t milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven at 350℉
  • Combine flour, baking soda, and baking powder and stir. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream butter.
  • Add the sugar, mix well.
  • Mix in egg and vanilla extract.
  • Slowly add the dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly.
  • With floured hands, take golf ball size pieces of dough and shape into crescents, and then flatten to 1/4″ or roll the dough on a floured surface to 1/4″ and use a floured crescent shaped cookie cutter.
  • Bake on an ungreased baking sheet at 350℉ for about 10 minutes, until the sides begin to brown.
  • While cookies are cooling, whip cream cheese and butter together.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar.
  • Add vanilla and mix well.
  • Blend in milk. If too thick, add a little extra.
  • Frost cookies when cooled.
